  1. A trombone is a brass wind instrument of 
  2. mainly cylindrical bore, incorporating a 
  3. movable slide which allows a continuous 
  4. glissando (slide) in pitch over a span of 
  5. half an octave. A descendant of the 
  6. Renaissance sackbut, the Baroque trombone has 
  7. a shallow cup mouthpiece and modestly flared 
  8. bell giving a firm, noble tone, to which the 
  9. modern wide bell adds a brassy sheen.
